The Thomas Tribune: If you're obese, rethink flying United!

Why should the airline foot the bill because a very overweight customer needs two seats? They weigh more, needing more fuel to transport them, and they intrude the space of the other passengers. If you bring extra luggage, or if your bags weigh too much, they charge you extra. So why not if you need more than one seat extender? Obviously these aren't just people who are a few pounds overweight, it's for situations where somebody needs more than one seat extender or takes up two seats. I totally agree with the airline here. If you don't agree don't fly with them.

    Thanks for your comment!

While I see your point, in this country we do not make people with disabilities pay to be accommodated. If a person is so large that they cannot fit into a single seat, in my opinion their size actually qualifies as a disability.

It is for this reason that I disagree with policies like what United and Southwest have implemented. And as I stated in my article, I will not support businesses with discriminatory policies; whether that be against color, creed, race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. I will vote on this one with my money and I choose to take it elsewhere.
